I heart January.
Yeah, I know, it bucks the trend.
We’re fed a line by the media, every meme and article telling us how blue January is.
And, that is the experience for lots of us. Here we are in mid-January, and, if you made new year’s resolutions, you’re probably finding that your willpower is waning a little bit by now. Those big plans, those big changes, that seemed like a good idea at Christmas, might not seem like such a great idea now.
Maybe the January blues have kicked in?
But not for me. I love January.
Why? Because it’s quiet. Because it gives me time to reflect. Time to think and time to plan.
I don’t get to do that in December when my head is full of shopping, wrapping, nativity plays, school fairs, social events……………….
I don’t have the headspace to think about making changes, I just focus on doing the next job in front of me.
When all that stops and things go back to normal, that’s when I take the time to just reflect on what it is that’s working, what’s not working, what I want to do more of or less of.
I spent much of last week just allowing my mind to wander and find the solutions in that quiet and up popped three small changes that I’ve put in place and which will immediately make a difference.
I changed the times I go to the gym, which meant I could change my working hours and I decided to stop doing a couple of things in my business. Small and simple, big impact changes.
And sometimes that’s all it takes, just small changes. It’s all about finding the difference that really will make the difference to you. And that’s often not the big stuff.
Yet, they were solutions that I couldn’t find in the noise of December, the time of year when we have the least headspace.
You see, it’s counter-intuitive isn’t it to stop thinking about a problem you want to solve? But the truth is that it’s when you stop thinking about it that the answers will find you.
So, if you’re at that point where you’re struggling to maintain those big commitments that you made to yourself at the start of January, then why not just take a bit of time out, stop beating yourself up, and just let the inspiration and the solutions find you in those quiet moments.
If you’re feeling stuck or if there’s a change you want to make, but you need some help quietening down the noise in your head enough to let the inspiration flow, then get in touch and I’ll help you.
